Embrace the Irish Autumn Outdoors: Our Picks for Half-Day Adventures

Our team at Trendy & Bendy loves the outdoors and we've handpicked two boardwalk trails that are perfect for a 2-3 hour adventure, each offering a unique experience of Ireland's stunning autumn landscape. Don't let the cooler weather deter you - these walks are a fantastic way to enjoy the crisp air and changing colours of the season.

We love these boardwalk trails not just for their stunning views, but also for their increased accessibility. The sturdy, well-maintained boardwalks make these beautiful landscapes more approachable for a variety of fitness levels and abilities.

Remember, while the boardwalks do make the trails more accessible, some sections can still be challenging, so always consider your personal fitness level when planning your adventure.

Our Staff Recommendations

Queen Maeve Trail – Knocknarea, Co. Sligo

We love this trail for its rich mythology and incredible panoramic views. The climb to Queen Maeve's cairn is along a boardwalk through a pine forrest, and the colours in the surrounding landscape are stunning. The boardwalk sections though the forrest make the steep climb more manageable and you'll be rewarded by amazing views of Strandhill and Coney Island from the top. Go early in the morning to have the mountain to yourself.

Check out sligowalks.ie/walks/qmt for info about the cairn and here's where you can start the walk.

  • Time: This walk took us about 1.5 hours total but depending on your pace it can take 2.5 hours.
  • Length: 5.5 km

Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail (Stairway to Heaven), Co. Fermanagh

This is located in a UNESCO Global Geopark. This means you can enjoy the rugged beauty of the blanket bog without worrying about muddy terrain. And the view from the top? Absolutely worth every step!

Here's where to start the walk and make sure you pre-book your car park space (£6).

  • Time: This walk took us about 2 hours.
  • Length: 6 km
